Snowmass Village, Colo., (February 6, 2024) – 42 years of Mardi Gras tradition returns to Snowmass Village on Fat Tuesday, February 13, 2024. Festivities include a Bead Toss by the 2024 Mardi Gras Royality, Jeff & Anette Kremer; a Bud Light HiFi Concert featuring The Burroughs; performers and DJs; Snowmass Ice Age Discovery Talk & Tour; and Fireworks. The Mother of All Ascensions Uphill Race also takes place starting on Fat Tuesday.

Mardi Gras Royalty

The 2024 Snowmass Mardi Gras Royalty are Jeff and Annette Kremer. 33-year residents of Snowmass Village, Jeff and Annette encapsulate the spirit of the Snowmass Community. After working 31 years as a mental health and addiction supervisor, Jeff is already living the retired life, while Annette retires this month after working 39 years for Aspen Valley Hospital. As many locals do, both lead active lifestyles. Jeff may be seen on his daily run or working out at the Snowmass Village Recreation Center. Annette can be found on area hiking trails, swimming or knitting her latest creation. Annette has been the Queen of her castle for decades, yet still has the skills to repair or construct a variety of household items while Jeff stands by in awe and relief! Their two children, Kellan and Hayley, are 2012 Aspen High School graduates.

Performers, DJs, Snowmass Ice Age Discovery Talk & Tour, & Snowmass S’mores At 1:00 p.m., meet in the Limelight Snowmass lobby to learn the story of the Snowmass Ice Age Discovery during the Snowmass Ice Age Discovery Talk & Tour. This 90-minute tour features stories about the mammoths and mastodons who used to roam, as well as a guided Ice Age Passport Walk through the Village.

Kick off the Mardi Gras celebrations with Kidtoons, featuring free face painting, beads, and noisemakers for kids starting at 1:30 p.m. on the Snowmass Mall and in Snowmass Base Village. Music kicks off at 2:30 p.m., with a local DJ spinning tunes on the Tower Stage. Also at 2:20 p.m., catch the Mardi Gras Royalty as they proceed from the Snowmass Mall into Snowmass Base Village, handing out beads, while Art of Air stilt walkers and jugglers rove around Snowmass Base Village.

Bud Light HiFi Concert & Bead Toss

Join the Mardi Gras Royalty at the Bud Light HiFi Concert in Snowmass Base Village featuring The Burroughs, a Colorado based soul band. At 3:00 p.m. DJ Berkel Beats warms up the crowd on the Bud Light HiFi concert stage in Base Village, while the annual Mardi Gras Bead Toss starts at 3:15 p.m. from the concert stage, with music to follow at 4:00 p.m.

Late Night & Fireworks

Following the concert at 5:30 p.m., LED performers and Blackjack dealers rove the Snowmass Mall, accompanied by a local DJ on the Tower Stage. Finally, at 7:30 p.m. enjoy fireworks over Fanny Hill to close out Mardi Gras 2024!

The 32nd Annual Mother of All Ascensions

The 32nd Annual Mother of All Ascensions returns to Snowmass in 2024. Strap on a pair of snowshoes, AT boots, telemark gear, or stabilizers to complete the route from Snowmass Base Village to the High Alpine Marketplace in one go, 2,073 feet of elevation gain, between February 13-February 23. This year there is no specific race on Fat Tuesday. Instead, participants must register for the race online and have 10 days to complete the course. All participants must follow ASC uphill guidelines. Participation is still allowed without an Aspen Snowmass Uphilling Pass; however, participants must sign a waiver during registration. $20 from every registration is donated to the Aspen Hope Center. Snowmass Village, Colo., (January 11, 2024) – Calling all Ice Age explorers! Snowmass Tourism and the Aspen Science Center announce a new Snowmass Ice Age Discovery Talk & Tour, hosted weekly this winter in Snowmass.

Learn the story of the remarkable Snowmass Ice Age discovery, the finest Ice Age fossil discovery in the world, from an Aspen Science Center educator, every Tuesday at 1:00 p.m., now through April 9, 2024. This Talk & Tour is open to visitors and residents of all ages. Meet in the Limelight Snowmass lobby to learn about the mammoths and mastodons who inhabited Snowmass between 60,000 and 120,000 years ago, and see replicas of Ice Age animal bones, teeth, tusks, and more. Then, follow along on a guided Ice Age Passport Walk through Snowmass Base Village and the Snowmass Mall to see art inspired by the discovery and earn an Ice Age prize. The Talk & Tour launched on January 9, 2024.

Kick off the holidays in Snowmass with the John Bemis Community Potluck, a beloved community Thanksgiving event with a 30+ year history, on Sunday, November 19 from 4:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Viewline Resort Snowmass, Autograph Collection. Doors and a cash bar open at 4:30 p.m., the community welcome and blessing take place at 5:00 p.m. Dinner is served at 5:15 p.m. Community members are encouraged to bring a dish to share and non-perishable donations to local non-profit, Harvest For Hunger. Last names beginning A-K, are asked to bring a side/salad; L-Z last names should bring a dessert. Join friends and neighbors for this special communal evening presented by Viewline Resort Snowmass, Snowmass Village Rotary Club, Alpine Bank, the Snowmass Chapel, Eastwood Investments, Romero Group, East West Partners, and the Town of Snowmass Village. Snowmass Village lights up for the holiday season on Friday, December 1 at 5:30 p.m. with the annual Light Up the Night tree lighting ceremony at the Snowmass Chapel. Enjoy cocoa, carols, a countdown, and an in person visit from Santa. Over 40 trees light up the night, making for a stunning picturesque display.

Celebrate Hanukkah at the Collective Snowmass with a large Menorah on display December 7-14 and a special Menorah Lighting Ceremony with Council Woman Alyssa Shenk on Thursday, December 7 at 6:00 p.m.

The Collective Snowmass comes alive as Santa’s Village from December 15 through the New Year, complete with nutcrackers, inflatable snowmen, decorative lights, candy canes, light tunnel, and more. Guests can take photos and enjoy the festive holiday scene, daily during operating hours.

Live Ice Sculpture Demos by Thomas Barlow, a local Carbondale ice sculptor, take place on December 17 in Snowmass Base Village and on December 21 on the Snowmass Mall. On December 17, come to the Collective Snowmass for a Holiday Drag Brunch from 12:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., featuring a special holiday performance from the Queen herself, Kendra Matic. The Torchlight Parade features skiers and snowboarders making wide turns down the mountain with red flares that illuminate the night sky and snow with a festive glow. The parade begins at 6:00 p.m. and all are welcome to participate (must be an intermediate skier or above). Ski/snowboard participants begin loading the Village Express chairlift at 5:30 p.m. Fireworks launch at 10:00 p.m. to celebrate the New Year.

2024 Stifel Aspen Winternational – March 1-3, 2024: For the culmination of the Audi FIS Ski World Cup circuit in the U.S., Aspen Snowmass hosts men’s tech races for the 2024 Stifel Aspen Winternational on March 1-3, 2024. International racers compete in slalom and giant slalom on Aspen Mountain, and Aspen Snowmass hosts spectating, ceremonies and events surrounding the races as part of the Winternational celebration. Aspen Snowmass has hosted more than 100 World Cup races for both men and women over the years, including the World Cup Finals in 2017 and the Stifel America’s Downhill™ downhill and super-G races last season. National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic – April 1-7, 2024: More than 400 Veterans with qualifying disabilities participate in this annual winter adaptive sports event, hosted by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and DAV (Disabled American Veterans). The clinic, hosted in Snowmass for the past 21 years, is the world leader in adaptive winter sports and offers Veterans the opportunity to participate in downhill and cross-country skiing, sled hockey, and other adaptive sports workshops and classes. Veterans with TBIs, spinal cord injuries, visual impairments, amputations, and other severe disabilities are challenged to overcome perceived limitations. NASTAR Nationals – April 8-13, 2024: The NASTAR National Championships return to Snowmass, April 8-13, 2024. The Championships were first held at Snowmass in 1998 and from 2013-2015, then again in the 2021, 2022, and 2023 seasons. Snowmass Village, Colo., (November 6, 2023) – The John Bemis Community Potluck, a beloved free, community Thanksgiving event for more than 30 years, returns to Snowmass on Sunday, November 19 from 4:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Viewline Resort Snowmass, Autograph Collection. 

“I love the Community Potluck. The event is the kickoff to winter, and it allows our community to gather, share their favorite side dish and enjoy the fellowship of our village,” says Bill Madsen, Mayor, Town of Snowmass Village. “We are all Snowmass Village people, and the Community Potluck brings full-time residents, part-time residents, and seasonal workers together to share a meal and connect. Thank you to the Bemis family, the Viewline Resort Snowmass, and all the sponsors for making the dinner possible.”

The event began in the late 1980’s as a small gathering at the Snowmass Chapel and has grown over the years to include 500+ people. This year, doors and a cash bar open at 4:30 p.m., while the community blessing takes place at 5:00 p.m. Dinner will be served at 5:15 p.m.

As in the past, the menu includes turkey, baked ham, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, green bean casserole, roasted squash and carrots, plus rolls, and cranberry sauce. Community members are encouraged to bring a dish to share. Last names beginning A-K, are asked to bring a side/salad; L-Z last names should bring a dessert. In addition, all are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to donate to local non-profit Harvest For Hunger. Snowmass Revives the Snowmass Ice Age Discovery

In 2010, a construction crew unearthed a single tusk of a mammoth while digging at Ziegler Reservoir in Snowmass Village. The Denver Museum of Nature and Science took over the site and went on to unearth 35,000 bones of large mammals and small vertebrate species. The Snowmass paleontological site is the richest Ice Age ecosystem ever found at high altitude. New for the Winter 2023/2024 season, Snowmass is bringing the Snowmass Ice Age Discovery story to life in new ways. Three new unique murals debut on the Snowmass Mall and in Snowmass Base Village, created by regional, national, and international artists, Jeremy Collins, Bunnie Reiss, and Kris Hewitt (known as Studio Kronk). Winter hikers and snowshoers on the Rim Trail are taken back in time via a set of permanent viewfinders, found at the iconic Spiral Point, overlooking Ziegler Reservoir. QR codes around the Village on signs and inside the Sky Cab/Skittles Gondola, and on Snowmass Village Transit treat guests to digital Ice Age facts and fun. Gorsuch Expands on the Snowmass Mall

The spaces formally known as First Chair Café, North Face, and Patagonia, launch for the Winter 2023/2024 season as an extension of the Gorsuch family of retail offerings. The former North Face and First Chair Café debuts this winter as the Gorsuch Ski Café, along with rentals, boot fitting, and retail. The Ski Café is reminiscent of the Ski Café at the Gondola Plaza in Aspen. The former Patagonia space transforms into Gorsuch Ski Lockers, complete with an upstairs tunning shop.
