About Mount Norquay

Mount Norquay Ski Resort is a historic gem that holds a special place in the skiing community. Established in 1926 by Austrian, Swiss, and German engineers, it was the first ski hill created in Western Canada. Despite its small size, Norquay exudes charm and authenticity, offering visitors a local experience away from the hustle and bustle of larger resorts. Its proximity to the town of Banff, just a 10-minute drive away, makes it an accessible and convenient destination for both locals and tourists.

In the summer months, hiking trails wind through the surrounding mountains, offering stunning views of the rugged landscape. For those seeking a little more excitement, the resort's via ferrata routes provide thrilling climbing experiences led by a highly experienced ACMG-certified guide. And let's not forget about the breathtaking views. Get on the best seat in Banff National Park and take a scenic chairlift ride; you'll be treated to panoramic vistas of the Canadian Rockies that will leave you speechless.

When winter blankets the landscape in snow, families can enjoy tubing fun at Tube Town, where eight lanes offer excitement for all ages. Norquay also offers a fully lit terrain park, perfect for freestyle enthusiasts. With terrain suitable for all skill levels, from beginners to experts, there's something for everyone to enjoy. The resort's steep slopes and challenging runs make it a favorite among thrill-seekers, while wide-open groomed runs near the lodge cater to beginners and intermediates. And for those looking for a unique experience, Norquay offers the only night skiing in Banff National Park, allowing visitors to carve up the slopes under the stars—a truly magical experience that shouldn't be missed.

Despite its small size, Mount Norquay offers diverse terrain, with nearly half of its 190 acres classified as black diamond and double black runs. The resort's steep slopes make it an ideal training ground for Olympic and World Cup athletes. Notable runs include the super-fast Black Magic, known for being one of the steepest groomed runs in Canada. Beginners can enjoy wide-open groomed runs near the lodge, while advanced riders can tackle challenging moguls and natural terrain.

While there is no on-mountain accommodation at Norquay, visitors have plenty of lodging options in the nearby town of Banff. The town offers a range of hotels, lodges, and vacation rentals to suit every budget and preference. Shuttle buses run from various Banff hotels to the ski hill, providing convenient transportation for visitors without a car.

Mount Norquay Ski Resort offers a unique blend of history, charm, and adventure in the heart of the Canadian Rockies. Whether you're exploring the slopes in winter or enjoying outdoor activities in summer, Norquay's breathtaking scenery and welcoming atmosphere make it a must-visit destination for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages.
