About Fernie

Fernie, tucked away in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, offers visitors a true mountain community experience, surrounded by breathtaking scenery and a vibrant cultural scene. Located in south-eastern British Columbia, Fernie is easily accessible, being a 3-hour drive west from Calgary, Alberta, an 11-hr drive east from Vancouver, and a 2-hr drive north from Kalispell, Montana, USA. In the winter, Fernie Alpine Resort comes alive with over 2,500 acres of skiable terrain, legendary powder snow, and a variety of terrain suitable for all skill levels. With up to 37 feet of snowfall in a season and 142 named runs, including 5 alpine runs, Fernie offers an unforgettable skiing and snowboarding experience. From the extreme steeps of Currie Bowl to the challenging tree runs of Timber, there’s terrain to suit every rider's preferences. 

During the summer months, Fernie transforms into a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. The resort’s lift-accessed biking, hiking, and sightseeing options provide ample opportunities for outdoor adventure and exploration. The resort hosts bike races such as the Fernie, BC Cup/Canada Cup DH Race, and SCOTT Race Series, catering to riders of all ages and abilities. For those seeking a more leisurely experience, the Summer Mountain Adventure School offers guided hikes, freeride bike camps, and wellness activities.

Getting to Fernie

Driving from the Calgary area, take Highway 1 west, then merge onto Highway 22 south. Continue on Highway 3 west until you reach Fernie. The drive time is approximately 3.5 hours.

From Vancouver, take Highway 1 east, then merge onto Highway 3 east. Continue on Highway 3 until you reach Fernie. The drive time is approximately 11–12 hours.

From the USA (Kalispell, Montana), head north on US-93 N, then cross the border into Canada. Merge onto BC-93/BC-95 N, then continue onto Highway 3 west. Follow Highway 3 until you reach Fernie. The drive time is approximately 2.5 hours.
