Adventure on Two Wheels

The mountain bike culture in Whistler is immense and continually developing. Whistler is home to some of the best mountain bike trail networks on the planet. Hundreds of Downhill, Enduro, XC, and gravel trails extensively surround the town. Realistically, you’re never more than a 10-minute pedal from a world-class trail network.

Whistler also hosts the last stop on the Crankworx World Tour, the world’s largest mountain bike festival. This annual event in July brings thousands of riders in from around the globe. Races, film events, bike demos, merch tents, and more make this one of the best weeks of the year.

Whistler Bike Park
The Whistler Bike Park holds the crown for the world’s best bike park. Boasting a vertical of 4,900 ft (1,494 m), 70 expertly crafted trails wind their way through old-growth rainforests in four unique zones. You’ll find steady progression here with something to excite every level of rider. Iconic trails like A-line, Dirt Merchant, and Top of the World are recommended gems for the expert-level rider. Additionally, the Whistler Bike Park offers downhill bike lessons and kid’s camps to assist in safe and fun rider development.

Enduro, XC, and Road Riding
Every mountain that surrounds Whistler is home to a unique trail network. In general, the “valley riding” is said to be fast, technical and steep. Gruelling fireroad climbs are the only way to access these networks. Progressive terrain is generous, however, these trails can be janky. You must be a solid rider to attempt any black diamond terrain here.

The Blackcomb trail network offers easy accessibility to those staying in the village. Dark Crystal, Hey Bud and Crazy Train are advanced local favourites to check out. Just down the road, Lost Lake is home to Whistler’s most friendly beginner terrain.

Sproatt and Rainbow Mountain trail networks introduce riders to the most technical trails in Whistler. Be prepared for steep trails with large rock features and tons of roots. In the summer months, the famous Lord of the Squirrels opens. This alpine masterpiece challenges riders to ascend over 5000 ft (1600 m) with a roundtrip distance of over 22 mi (35 km).

For the leisurely cyclist, Whistler’s Valley Trail is a paved network of 28 mi (46 km) of trail. The trail winds through Whistler’s neighbourhoods, around its lakes and along Whistler’s many scenic viewpoints. Additionally, road cycling routes to Pemberton and into the Callaghan Valley are community favourites.

Adventure on Four Wheels

With the extensive network of logging and fire service roads twisting through the old-growth rainforest, the town is adequately set up for off-road experiences. ATV tours, off-road jeep excursions, bear sightseeing and wilderness excursions offer something unique for visitors looking to get into the mountains.

Canadian Wilderness Adventures offers several tour options at multiple locations around town. Some go deep into the rainforest while others scale mountains reaching high into the alpine. ATV Tours are organised by skill level so families can enjoy a more relaxed pace whereas skilled riders can open up the throttle.

Whistler Discovery Tours is the town’s longest-running and most successful bear and scenic off-road tour company. Land Rover Defenders and Discoverys take guests into the Whistler backcountry to explore alpine lakes, waterfalls and forests while searching for wild bears. This company’s unique tours allow you to go off-road while relaxing in the comfort of a luxury vehicle equipped with air suspension, leather seats and air conditioning.
