Seasonal Activities at Ski Resorts

Seasonal activities to keep you busy

Winter is a beautiful season, and ski resorts know how to make the most of it. The majority of our ski resorts offer so much more than skiing. We've put together a list of activities that the resort you choose may offer. Ask your agent for more details if you're interested in any of the following activities:

  1. The Spa

Most resorts have a spa in the village, and many hotels have their own on-site. Spas are the place to go when you need to escape the stresses and urgency of everyday life. Swedish, Watsu, Thai, or Shiatsu — treat yourself to the massage your muscles are calling for!

  2. Skating

Anywhere with a skating rink will have a skate rental shop, so the only thing you need to bring is a good pair of socks; although a decent sense of balance may also come in handy! Unlike most city rinks, the rinks at a ski resort are outdoors and usually on a frozen lake or pond. Ask your agent about the rink at your resort.

  3. Sleigh Ride

Some resorts offer horse-drawn sleigh rides, and some even take you out to a secluded cabin in the snowy woods where you can enjoy a gourmet meal. Ask your agent if you’re interested in this romantic and memorable adventure under the stars.

  4. Snowshoeing

This winter classic will make you feel as light as a feather when you walk atop the snow; snowshoeing gives you access to winter landscapes that you wouldn’t be able to see otherwise. Snowshoe equipment costs less to rent than skis and snowboards, making it a very resonable winter activity.

  5. Ice Walls and Ice Climbing

Ice climbing walls vary from place to place They all have different difficulty levels and safety harnesses, but no matter what difficulty you choose, the rush of scaling a giant ice wall will be a vacation memory you'll remember forever. Ask your agent if your resort has an ice wall and challenge your friends to see who can make it to the top.

  6. Tubing

Snow tubing is fast becoming a favorite pastime at a ski resort. It’s like tobogganing, but you don’t have to hike back up the hill — there’s a special lift for that! Most tubing parks have a variety of runs, so there will be some that are better suited for children and families. Your agent will be able to tell you all about it.

  7. Bars & Restaurants

A night out with family or friends is always a treat, so be sure to check out a local restaurant or tavern on the hill. There’s something about a snowy atmosphere that makes everything cozy and comfortable.

  8. Local Cuisine

Look up your resort and get a sense of what there is to experience. All ski resorts have one-of-a-kind places to eat or local cuisine special to the area, so take the opportunity to try something different during your next holiday. You might discover your new favorite dish.

  9. Après-Ski

Meet up with your ski buddies to hear about their day over a shared dish.

  10. Night Life

Clubs, bars, and after-parties; sometimes all you need is a crazy night with music and friends.

  11. Music Festivals or Concerts

Music fests aren’t just for summertime. Many ski resorts host musicians for a one night concert or weekend show. Be sure to find out if anything is planned for the dates you’ll be there — maybe your favorite band is rolling into town the same day you are!

  12. Funny Ski/Snowboard Contests

You don’t have to ski or board to enjoy these events! Many resorts put on contests that require goofy costumes and feats of bravery (or ridiculousness) as competitors compete to win. Such events are Gaper day, Pond Crossings, the Pain McShlonkey Classic (Squaw Valley), and more. Bring a picnic lunch and get your seat early; you’ll wanna see these wipe-outs up close and personal!

  13. Shopping

Ski Resorts have everything from souvenir shops to complete clothing stores. Bring a few dollars and go see what you can find on the hill.

  14. Kids Clubs/Daycare

Family vacations are the best, but sometimes parents want to break off from the kids — and the kids want to break off from the parents! Ski resorts have daycare services and kids clubs that your children will love. They get to meet new friends while you get to be an adult. Kick your feet up at the spa or get a bite to eat in a place that doesn’t have a kids menu.

  15. Ski School

Whether you're a novice or an intermediate, there's always room to learn. Check out your resorts ski schools and sign up. We all start somewhere — even your ski instructor started out doing the “pizza/french fries” test on a bunny hill. The only way to get better at something is to practice.

  16. The Town/The Village

Your resort will have a lot of things to do but you and yours might decide that a trip to the nearest town will do you some good. Check out the movie theaters, shopping malls, live theater, museums, etc. in the town closest to you. Vacation memories are around every corner.

  17. Dog-Sledding

It’s synonymous with winter and snow. Is there anything more majestic than the picturesque sledder and his team of loyal canine companions atop an untouched mountain? Dog sledding, or “Mushing” is a one-of-a-kind experience that your resort may offer. Ask your agent if this is something you'd like to do.
